LONGVIEW — Cowlitz County deputies Wednesday stopped a fleeing driver suspected of stealing a Homeland Security vehicle.

Travis J. Grygla, 43, of Portland is now in custody.

The sheriff’s office said Grygla was able to steal the vehicle after being placed, uncuffed, in the back seat by a Homeland Security agent during a different arrest earlier that day.

The office heard the vehicle was on northbound Interstate 5 around 9 a.m. and joined the pursuit.

The chase, which involved speeds over 100 mph, ended near exit 48 in Castle Rock after deputies used spike strips to deflate the suspect’s tires, the report states.
