Prep highlights, Mark Morris softball gets key win in postponed game

More than two weeks after the game started, Mark Morris finally wrapped up a key 2A Greater St. Helens League softball win on Monday.

Mark Morris moved back into first place with a 7-6 win over Woodland in 11 innings. The game was the resumption of an April 12 game that was suspended after 10 innings with the teams tied 6-6.

Michella Freeman drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to score Shyanne Sellers in the top of the 11th. Makenzie Henthorn then struck out the side in the bottom of the 11th.

Mark Morris (11-3, 12-1) leads the 2A GSHL by a half game over Ridgefield (14-3, 11-1). The Monarchs have three league games left while the Spudders have four. The teams split two games against each other.

Stars of the day

  • McKinley Ermshar, Union softball, allowed three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts in a 6-0 win over Camas.
  • Kadence Burleson, Evergreen softball, went 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple and five RBI in a 13-2 win over Mountain View.
  • Jaila Ellis, Heritage softball, hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the fifth inning of a 3-1 win over Kelso. She was also the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
  • Will Goth, Evergreen baseball, went 4 for 4 with three runs scored in a 10-0 win over Union.
  • Caden Spanier, Skyview baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBI in a 6-4 win over Mountain View.
  • Nolan Nunn, Prairie baseball, tripled and scored all three runs in a 3-2 win over Heritage. He scored the go-ahead run on an errant throw while stealing third base in the top of the seventh inning.
  • Ethan Wall, Hockinson baseball, went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI in a 12-0 win over Woodland.
  • Noah Coakes, Columbia River baseball, allowed one hit and walked none with six strikeouts in a 12-0 win over Washougal.
  • Mia Yanez, Columbia River softball, went 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored in a 12-3 win over Hockinson.
  • Dossen Morrow, Mark Morris baseball, went 2 for 2 with a three-run home run and four RBI in a 8-2 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Jared Childers, R.A. Long baseball, went 4 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBI in a 24-0 win over Fort Vancouver.
  • Jacinda Lee, Camas girls golf, shot an even-par 36 at Camas Meadows for medalist honors in a 162-229 team win over Union.
  • Brooklyn Gaston, Woodland girls golf, had a 42 for medalist honors at Longview Country Club in the Beavers’ 208-225 loss to Mark Morris.
  • Ashley Suva, Hockinson girls tennis, won a tight third-set super tiebreaker to beat Cassidy Mason of Hudson’s Bay 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 to help the Hawks to a 4-2 team win.
  • Toren Baker, Skyview boys soccer, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Battle Ground.
  • Pablo Sanchez Barbosa, Heritage boys soccer, scored four goals and assisted on one in the Timberwolves’ 5-0 win over Kelso.
