Letter: College sports headed for disaster

I do not like the new landscape in college football. Both the Big Ten and the Big XII have Western teams now in addition to East Coast teams that also play in the Big XII. There is absolutely no reason for a traditionally Midwestern conference or a conference traditionally in the Great Plains region to have any team out West.

This is exactly why I have no interest in college sports anymore. The only reason for this is money. Regionality and rivalries don’t mean anything anymore. The NCAA needs to step in and put a stop to this. Conferences need to go back to being regional again.

This is going to be a gigantic disaster. The only sport that will even benefit from this is football. All the Olympic sports are going to be hurt, even basketball, since they don’t make as much revenue as football as well as playing more games. Also didn’t the student-athletes get a say in this or was it decided for them against their will?
