CAMAS — The owners of Acorn & the Oak, a popular Camas restaurant near Lacamas Lake, have announced they will close the eatery Sept. 6.

Janessa Stoltz, who co-owns the restaurant with husband Chuck Stoltz, made the announcement Aug. 14 on Facebook.

The Stoltzes said the decision stemmed from a desire to spend more time with their toddler son.

The couple purchased the former Lakeside Chalet building, 3533 N.E. Everett St., in February 2019, and jumped through permitting hoops for months before transforming the building into a lush, flower-filled Midwest supper club-inspired restaurant and flower shop. Acorn & the Oak opened in early 2020, weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered restaurants.

The Stoltzes rolled with the punches and said in 2020 that they were “thriving in a COVID world with a skeleton crew of dedicated and talented humans making magic despite the chaos” during the pandemic shutdowns.

Their hard work paid off. Acorn & the Oak gained a loyal customer base and regularly attracted visitors from out of town.

Many of those customers said last week that they were sad to see the closure announcement.

“There are so many kind messages on our posts,” Janessa Stoltz said Aug. 15 on Facebook. “I’m overwhelmed. ‘Our cup runneth over’ has never felt like a more accurate statement.”
