Letter: Harris shows leadership

In perhaps the best political address I’ve heard in my 80-plus years, Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president of the United States.

In her address, Harris told Americans of her upbringing in Oakland,Calif., the values that were instilled in her as a girl and young woman, and where she stands on such important issues as the economy, immigration and the border, and even foreign policy matters such as Ukraine and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

In a word, she was presidential. Throughout the address, Harris contrasted herself to former President Donald Trump, who spent the hour demeaning Harris to his followers on “Truth” Social.

So, American voters will have the opportunity on Nov. 5 (or sooner) to choose between a remarkable woman who has demonstrated compassion and determination throughout her life and a 78-year-old man, born into luxury, who watched the mob he assembled on Jan. 6, 2021, force its way into the Capitol.

I’ll vote for the candidate who has demonstrated the qualities necessary to be the leader of my country: Kamala Harris.
