Letter: Put limits on rent

Rent is way too high. I can barely afford a one-bedroom apartment in this part of the country. These landlords and management companies are very greedy and they threaten you with eviction if you can’t afford to pay rent. They expect us to pay $1,000 every month and too many people don’t have that kind of money. It’s time to change this now.

Too many people are ending up in the streets and nothing is being done about that. There needs to be a law against charging that much for rent. In fact, there needs to be a legal limit on how much landlords and apartment managers can charge per month. I think $500 would be a reasonable limit for a one-bedroom apartment. If there’s two or three bedrooms, those additional rooms should not be more than $25. For the utilities, it should be $100 maximum.
