Prep Basketball Roundup: Battle Ground boys eliminate Union, 55-48, to claim No. 3 seed

The Battle Ground boys basketball team claimed the No. 3 seed to the 4A bi-district tournament by winning the 4A Greater St. helens League tiebreaker over Union 55-48 on Wednesday at Evergreen High School.

Ian Ebinger had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Trey Spencer had 14 points plus eight rebounds for the Tigers.

Battle Ground (9-11) will play at Curtis on Saturday in a loser-out game of the bi-district tournament. The Tigers will need to win three loser-out games to qualify for the 4A state tournament.

Union, who was led in scoring by Nick Burchett’s 11 points, had its season come to an end with a 10-12 record.

1A Boys District

ELMA 65, LA CENTER 59 — Cason Seaberg scored a game-high 32 points to lead Elma in the 1A district tournament first-round win at La Center.

The Wildcats hurt themselves by going 7 for 19 from the free-throw line.

Anthony Larkin led La Center in scoring with 14 points, Jayce Grotte had 12 and Parker McKinney added 11.

La Center will host King’s Way Christian in a loser-out game on Friday, while Elma plays at Tenino in a winner-to-state game.

Tenino edged King’s Way 48-43.

The other semifinal will have Montesano at Seton Catholic on Friday. Seton beat Hoquiam 71-56, while Monte took care of Stevenson 75-58.

Stevenson hosts Hoquiam in a loser-out game Friday.

2A Girls District

WASHOUGAL 66, ABERDEEN 46 — Ireland Albaugh scored a game-high 28 points, making six 3-pointers as the Panthers extended their season into the double-elimination bracket of the 2A district tournament.

Washougal put the game away early with a 22-8 first quarter.

Jenna Klopman scored 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter. Isabella Albaugh added 14 points.

Washougal will next play at Columbia River on Friday.

1A Girls District

SETON CATHOLIC 58, HOQUIAM 13 — Tiffany Sheldon scored 17 points and Riley Seymer had 13 as the Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the 1A district tournament.

Seton will host on Saturday the winner of Thursday’s game between Eatonville and Castle Rock.
