Letter: Protect property owners

Senate Bill 5796 would increase costs for the millions of Washingtonians living in a common interest community established before July 1, 2018. Sen. Ann Rivers is a co-sponsor. This bill requires a resale certificate, at the seller’s cost, to be issued by the common interest property before the property can be sold. While Article I, Section 10 of the United States Constitution provides “No State shall … pass any Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts,” our legislators are seeking to do just that by repealing the law under which all of these older common interest communities were created. Kudos to Sen. Lynda Wilson for voting against this bill.
