TV Questions: Is Prime’s ‘Reacher’ coming back for more?

I just finished watching the second season of “Reacher” and enjoyed it very much. Will there be a third season?

Yes. Prime Video announced the renewal of the show in December, about two weeks before the second season premiered. The third season will be based on “Persuader,” the seventh of the Reacher books by Lee Child. Prime says the plot is that “Reacher must go undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past.” Production has already begun, and fans of Reacher’s friend Frances Neagley will be happy to know that she is back in the third season — and played again by Maria Sten.

We have been enjoying the episodes of “Ghosts UK” during the break from the regular American version due to the Hollywood strikes. Any hope of that continuing? Or where else we could find it?

First, the U.S. version of “Ghosts” will begin a new season Thursday. Thirteen episodes (two seasons) of the original British version, called “Ghosts UK” here, aired on CBS as strike filler. Based on my mail, that show developed its own following and it would seem logical for the network to air the 21 episodes from “UK’s” other three seasons, perhaps as summer programming. But there’s no word from the network so far. For now, you can revisit those first two seasons on Paramount+. And Prime Video has all five seasons of “UK” for sale.

Can you tell me why Jeffrey Donovan is no longer on “Law & Order”?

Viewers noticed that the latest season of the NBC drama no longer had Donovan’s character, Detective Frank Cosgrove, after two seasons on the job. TVLine reported that he was “let go for creative reasons.” I can understand that; while I’ve admired Donovan’s work, I wasn’t a fan of the sour Cosgrove. Of course, I’m also no fan of prosecutor Nolan Price, played by Hugh Dancy, and he’s still around. In any case, there’s a new detective on the show, with Reid Scott playing Vincent Riley.

I think I remember a movie called “Nobody’s Fool” with Paul Newman and maybe Newman’s wife, Joanne Woodward, too. It was based on a book by Richard Russo. I would love to see it again but can’t find it anywhere. Can you help?

“Nobody’s Fool” (1994) is one of my favorite Paul Newman movies. Based on the Russo novel and directed by Robert Benton (who also wrote the screenplay), it was called a tale of “modest, common lives, beautifully shaped,” by the critic David Thomson. The formidable cast included Jessica Tandy (in her last movie role), Melanie Griffith, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Margo Martindale, Dylan Walsh and Bruce Willis — but not Woodward.

Pluto TV streams “Nobody’s Fool” (for free). It is also currently available on Blu-ray and 4K, and as a digital rental or purchase. It was at one time released on DVD, although that appears to be harder to find.
