Letter: Perez works for constituents

We are fortunate that The Weekend Columbian, when Congress is in session, gives us a rundown on how our local Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez and Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray vote in their respective chambers. I’ve seen comments here that Perez does not represent her constituency well because she votes along party lines. I notice in a recent Washington, D.C., Roll Call that Perez voted for all eight Republican-sponsored bills.

Perez is also an original co-sponsor of H.R. 3508, the Comprehensive Southern Border Strategy Act, sponsored by Rep. Young Kim, a California Republican. If you care to look at party-line voting, look at the current bipartisan immigration reform bill. MAGA cult leader Donald Trump now is telling his minions to vote no. Every bipartisan bill, in order to get passed, needs give and take on both sides, a concept former President Trump refuses to consider.

President Joe Biden says he will take immediate action as soon as this bill becomes law. Trump says Biden should take action by executive order. If that was the case, why didn’t Trump do so by executive order when he was president?
