Letter: Stand against unmerited GOP lies

By Marlene K. Adams, Vancouver
Published: February 16, 2024, 6:00am

My name is Marlene K. Adams. I am the Republican precinct committee officer from the 470th Precinct in Clark County. I consented to run for this party office to try to make the party better procedurally as I have no financial stake in the results, as some wealthy people do.

Often I have felt both physically intimidated and disgusted by the Republican mania for open carry, and thus often wanted to quit.

But never was I more devastated than when the Republican Party voted to censure Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler for her vote to impeach Donald J. Trump on Feb. 23, 2021. I voted against the censorship of Herrera Beutler and later refused to endorse or vote for Joe Kent or anyone else running against her in the general election of 2022.

I stand against the unmerited lies against the integrity of our election system. But I do not blame the U.S. Supreme Court for the inability to keep Donald Trump off the 2024 ballot.
