Letter: Middle East peace is not easy

In his letter, David Wolf thinks that “Middle East peace should be easy” (Our Readers’ Views’, Jan. 24). Taking somebody’s property that has been in their family for generations is never easy. In the Koran Jesus is a great prophet, the Virgin Mary the most exalted female. Before the Christian Crusades to the holy land, sects of Islam were devoted to Jesus Christ.

In World War I, we promised the Islamic world that as allies we would protect Muslim land. Later we would proclaim that didn’t include Jerusalem. In 1949 the West used the U.N. to take parts of Jerusalem from its people. In the 1950s Iran embraced Western culture with a democratically elected leader. In 1953 he was trying to nationalize the oil wells; the country’s wealth was going to other countries. The CIA started a coup that overthrew and replaced him with the tyrant Shah of Iran. This would allow the clerics to regain control, leaving the Iranian elite angry and betrayed. We used false claims of WMDs to go to war with Iraq.

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?” Matthew 7:3.
