Firefighters rescued a disabled man from a burning house early Tuesday morning in Washougal.

East County Fire and Rescue crews, along with companies from the Camas-Washougal and Vancouver fire departments, were dispatched shortly before 5 a.m. to a one-story house fire with a trapped occupant at 412 N.E. Blair Road.

When crews arrived, a resident confirmed that a man with a disability was trapped inside a bedroom. Firefighters stretched a hose line while another crew rescued the man, according to a news release.

The fire was quickly extinguished, East County Fire and Rescue said, and the home was searched for additional occupants.

Energized electrical wiring and a prodigious number of items inside the house complicated the search. Final extinguishment was delayed until Clark Public Utilities personnel cut power to the home, according to the news release.

The Clark County Fire Marshal Office’s initial investigation indicated the fire was accidental and originated in the home’s electrical panel.
