YAKIMA — A Union Gap man is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on charges he ran over a woman in Wapato three times.

Prosecutors filed second-degree assault and hit-and-run charges against Angel Gomez Romero, 49, in Yakima County Superior Court. Romero is being held in the Yakima County jail in lieu of $3,000 bail.

A woman told Wapato police that on Feb. 11, Romero got into an argument with her, and he was yelling about a phone that was either lost or stolen, according to a probable cause affidavit.

As the woman walked around the front of Romero’s van, he drove forward and hit her three times before driving off, the affidavit said. She had cuts on her hand and legs and her clothes were dirty, which police said was consistent with being hit and knocked down by a vehicle.

Romero was booked into the Yakima County jail in the early hours of Feb. 15.
