Most day-use sites in Washington and Oregon national forests will be free Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The fee waiver applies to multiple picnic areas, boat launches, trailheads and visitor centers, except for sites operated by concessionaires unless they choose to participate. Camping, cabin rental and permit costs still apply.

“This day can inspire each of us to make meaningful contributions in caring for our natural resources and appreciate how ‘all life is interrelated’ as Dr. King so wisely stated,” said Sally Butts, regional Forest Service director of recreation, lands and minerals.
