EAST WENATCHEE — Two cases of salmonella in Chelan and Douglas counties have been connected to a multistate outbreak of the food-borne illness, linked to charcuterie meats.

The state has four cases in this outbreak across four counties: Chelan, Douglas, King and Spokane, according to a Chelan-Douglas Health District news release.

In all four cases, some form of charcuterie was consumed prior to the person’s illness, according to the news release.

Officials from the state Department of Health are investigating charcuterie meat products. None of the people with confirmed salmonella cases in the state consumed the recalled Busseto Charcuterie Sampler, which was linked to an outbreak in other states, according to the news release.

The health district recommends that people check their refrigerator for recalled products and to throw them away or return them. Also, people should wash any surfaces or containers that may have touched the recalled product using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

People with severe symptoms of salmonella should contact their healthcare provider. According to the health district, those symptoms include:

  • Diarrhea and a fever higher than 102 degrees.
  • Diarrhea for more than three days that is not improving.
  • Bloody diarrhea.
  • So much vomiting that you cannot keep liquids down.
  • Signs of dehydration, such as: not urinating much, dry mouth and throat or feeling dizzy when standing up.
