We all know of, and many have used, the Oxford English Dictionary and the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Now there is a new dictionary, the Ault Dictionary (“There are no Indigenous peoples,” Our Readers’ Views, Jan. 13). In the OED and Merriam-Webster, Indigenous people are defined as the original inhabitants of a territory. This is common and correct usage. In the Ault Dictionary however, Indigenous people are defined as the most recent group to violently steal a territory from the original inhabitants.
