The Clark County Council on Tuesday approved a $3.5 million grant agreement with the state for the reconstruction of Northeast 152nd Avenue between Northeast Padden Parkway and Northeast 99th Street in Orchards.

The project will widen the road to include bike lanes, sidewalks, stormwater treatment, two flashing pedestrian crossing beacons and a traffic signal at Northeast 99th Street.

That portion of Northeast 152nd Avenue currently has scattered sidewalks and a poor road bed, said Troy Pierce, project management supervisor for Public Works.

Specific safety improvements include reconfiguring the Northeast 152ndAvenue-99th Street intersection from an all-way stop to a signalized intersection and a center-left turn lane at York Elementary School. The plan will also add two rapid response flashing beacons at pedestrian crossings — one at the school and the other at Northeast 85th Street to facilitate access to Tiger Tree Neighborhood Park.

The grant comes from the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board. The project has a total budget of $9.895 million and is currently in the design and right-of-way acquisition phases, with construction scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
