The U.S. Forest Service has extended the public comment period on the notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement on the proposal to amend the Northwest Forest Plan through Feb. 2.

The notice of intent touches on conditions that are driving the need to amend the plan, which encompasses standards and guidelines for the management of 24 million acres in Washington, Oregon and Northern California. Amendments will focus on wildfire resilience, climate change adaptation, tribal inclusion, sustainable communities and old-growth forest conservation.

To learn more about the Forest Service’s initiative, attend one of the webinars or virtual events scheduled. Each online meeting will have time for questions and feedback:

  • 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday
  • 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday
  • Noon to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
  • 5-7 p.m. Feb. 8.
