CHELAN — Morgen Owings Elementary School in Chelan was evacuated Monday morning following a bomb threat.

A caller claimed there was a bomb on the school’s playground and it would be detonated if they were not given a large sum of money, according to a news release from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

The call was made to the school and then reported by the Chelan School District to the sheriff’s office at 8:13 a.m.

Students were moved about a block away to the Chelan Community Gym.

Deputies searched the school and playground. At 10 a.m., the school was cleared to return to normal operations, the news release said.

The identity of the caller is under investigation.
