YAKIMA — Trial began Monday for a former Yakima County deputy prosecutor accused of sexually assaulting a woman, his former intimate partner.

Alvin Guzman has been charged in Kittitas County Superior Court with indecent liberties and four counts of fourth-degree assault.

Guzman is accused of entering his former intimate partner’s bedroom, touching and getting on top of her on several occasions. She said she struggled to breathe when he was on top of her and that he would ignore her requests for him to stop, according to a protection order.

Guzman also is accused of verbally abusing the woman and threatening her, the protection order said.

In her request for a protection order, the woman said she had a rape kit assembled to preserve evidence of the assaults, protection order documents said.

Because Guzman was a deputy prosecutor with Yakima County, the charges were filed in Kittitas County Superior Court.
