Three students and a fourth person suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning when an SUV reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a school bus in east Vancouver.

2. Vancouver construction company fined for teenager’s injuries that resulted in amputation of his legs

Labor officials have fined a Vancouver construction company more than $150,000 after a 16-year-old boy’s legs were amputated following an injury last summer while working on a site in La Center.

The boy, while working for Rotschy LLC, was using a walk-behind trencher to dig a channel for fence posts when he was dragged under the blade. His injuries were so severe that both of his legs were eventually amputated, according to the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.

3. Vancouver sinkhole that swallowed SUV wasn’t caused by weather

The Washington Street sinkhole that partially swallowed an SUV early Saturday wasn’t connected to last week’s weather, according to the city of Vancouver’s Public Works department.

Early Saturday, around 1:15 a.m., Katlynn Bicknell and her boyfriend were returning from a late-night bite when their SUV nosedived into the depths of Washington Street at 30th Street. They had just stumbled into a sinkhole hidden by a layer of water.

4. ‘This bridge is a lifeline’: Hood River bridge replacement gets $200M from feds

The Hood River-White Salmon Bridge replacement project received a $200 million federal grant, federal and local officials announced Monday.

The grant is expected to cover 40 percent of the project’s estimated $520 million price tag and is critical to reaching the goal of breaking ground in the next 18 months.
