Letter: Examine state of economy

By Beth Hicks, Vancouver

With all the complaining about the economy under President Joe Biden while extolling the “virtues” of the economy under the previous president, stop a minute and think about the major hits to the economy: tax breaks to the top 1 percent, the pandemic followed by supply chain issues.

Then figure in the unbridled greed by corporations that continued to make record profits by giving consumers less value and charging much higher prices. Continued consolidation of insurance companies and health providers has created a health system that will implode due to exorbitant pricing. Climate change creates inhospitable farming capability, resulting in higher produce costs.

If the GOP is reelected, the platform of revenge, reduction of voting/women/minority rights and nonsupport of our allies will not address the challenges we face.

It’s time to stop listening to and reading the lies and propaganda put forth by click-bait articles and opinions of sycophants of the previous president and do some critical thinking and research. Our democracy depends on it.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
