YAKIMA — A chase in downtown Yakima on Thursday evening ended with the suspect crashing into a law office.

The chase started around 5:20 p.m. on North First Street. The sport-utility vehicle had been involved in a chase last week, and police had probable cause for eluding, YPD Capt. Jay Seely said.

The chase was broken off, but an officer spotted the SUV near North Front Street, and an officer attempted to lay down a spike strip, and the suspect swerved toward the officer, missing him, Seely said.

The chase ended when the SUV went through the corner wall at the Abeyta Nelson Injury Law office, 1102 W. Yakima Ave.

Seely said a man and a woman were in the SUV. The man, in his 30s, was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a serious head injury, Seely said.
