The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday identified a 37-year-old Vancouver man as the pedestrian fatally struck by a vehicle Feb. 18 in the Van Mall neighborhood.

Michael D. Cromwell died from complications of blunt head trauma. The medical examiner’s office ruled his death an accident.

Cromwell was struck by a vehicle that was pulling out of the parking lot in the 8100 block of Northeast Parkway Drive to turn east onto Parkway, according to a Vancouver police news release. Emergency dispatch logs show the crash was reported at 10:18 p.m.

It is unclear if Cromwell was walking on the sidewalk or side of the road, police said. He was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

The driver, whose name was not released, told police he did not see Cromwell as he pulled out into the roadway, according to the news release. He remained on scene following the crash. There were no signs of impairment, police said.

The Vancouver Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the incident, which was the second fatal traffic crash investigated by the department this year.
