Prep highlights: Milhorn, Skyview softball shut out Ridgefield 5-0

Skyview pitcher Maddie Milhorn and the Storm opened their softball season with a dominating 5-0 victory at Ridgefield on Tuesday.

Milhorn, a University of Oregon commit, struck out 16 batters while walking two in the two-hit shutout. She struck out the side three times.

Milhorn also hit a three-run home run with two outs in the third inning.

Taylor Lies and Layla Royle each had two hits with one of Royle’s a double.

Ridgefield (0-1), the 2A state runner-up last season, had hits from Tava Whitlow and Mallory Vancleave.

Stars of the day

  • James Gill, Battle Ground baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBI in a 15-0 win over King’s Way Christian.
  • Justin Fuller, La Center baseball, went 2 for 4 with three RBI in a 7-2 win over Ridgefield.
  • Chanz Flores, Hudson’s Bay baseball, went 2 for 3 with three runs, four RBI and a double in a 17-12 win over Columbia-White Salmon.
  • Ellie Forster, Seton Catholic softball, went 4 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and had five RBI plus scored four runs in a 16-0 win over Washougal.
  • Bryce Collins, Kelso baseball, had seven strikeouts and no walks over three innings and went 2 for 2 at the plate in a 7-3 win over R.A. Long.
  • JP Guzman, Columbia River boys soccer, had a goal and an assist as the Rapids opened 2A GSHL play with a 3-0 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Yahir Gomez, Woodland boys soccer, had a goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over Mark Morris to open 2A GSHL play.
  • Jerson Meza and Illia Strynada, Fort Vancouver boys soccer, each had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 2A GSHL win over Washougal.
