Noah Newton and Jacob Long combined on a three-hitter as Battle Ground baseball beat Hudson’s Bay 2-1 on Thursday at Propstra Stadium.

Keegan Moffatt went 3 for 3 with three doubles, the last of which drove in Jackson Hotchkiss to give Battle Ground a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth.

James Gill hit a solo home run in the second inning to put the Tigers (2-1) on the board.

Newton pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, an unearned run and striking out seven.

Hudson’s Bay starting pitcher Chanz Flores pitched four innings, striking out six while allowing three hits and one walk. He scored the Eagles’ lone run in the sixth inning on a throwing error as he stole third base.

Hudson’s Bay (2-1) got the tying run on base with one out in the seventh. But Gill shut down the threat by picking off the runner at first before ending the game with a strikeout.
