Joe Biden certainly “owned the cons” during his State of the Union speech. Republicans, led by their Chosen One, Donald Trump, have long been lying to portray Biden as too old and mentally declining to be president, but he showed himself to be alert, intelligent and informed.
One example: For years, Republicans have raged about the immigration crisis at the southern border. Biden pointed out that when a bipartisan border bill was crafted and had the support of as many as 70 senators, it was killed when Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said it was “dead on arrival” before he even read it. Donald Trump said “give me the credit.”
The death of that bill probably more than any other circumstance paints a portrait of Republican and Trump philosophy: Say or do whatever you can to get and keep power, then use that power to benefit yourself and rich donors, good of the nation be damned. Republicans feared that doing something good for the nation would benefit Biden in the election.
