Letter: Focus on experience, leadership

By Douglas J. Munson, Vancouver

Greg Jayne’s column in the March 9 issue (“Hangup on age dodging the facts,” The Columbian) is a must read.

One of the most prevalent biases in our youth-focused society today is age discrimination, yet it is largely overlooked or ignored. A lot of people are making an issue of President Joe Biden’s age this election year. Yet Donald Trump will be older on Election Day this year than Joe Biden was on Election Day in 2020. So why has age become a factor? Shouldn’t our decision about the next president be based on experience and leadership ability and not about age?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
