Spring has sprung! I definitely have a spring in my step now that daffodils and cherry trees are a-blooming. We’re bound to have more rainy days and cool evenings ahead, but when I hear robins chirping outside my bedroom window in the morning, I know that Mother Nature is doing her magical spring thing.

Something about springtime makes for delightful reading in the picture book collection. Animals come out of hibernation, plants poke through the warmed-up soil, and kids come outside to play in the sun — it’s a very energizing time of year! To celebrate a new season with all of the colors, smells and sounds that represent spring, here is a picture book reading list full of charm and delight for little ones — and everyone who is young at heart.

  • “Abracadabra! It’s Spring!” written by Anne Sibley O’Brien, illustrated by Susan Gal.
  • “First Notes of Spring” written by Jessica Kulekjian, illustrated by Jennifer Bower.
  • “The Spring Book” written and illustrated by Todd Parr.
  • “Spring for Sophie” written by Yael Werber, illustrated by Jen Hill.
  • “Surprising Spring” written by Jennifer Marino Walters, illustrated by John Nez.
  • “When Spring Comes” written by Kevin Henkes, illustrated by Laura Dronzek.
