Hazel Dell was hit by a power outage affecting almost 24,000 households Tuesday morning, according to Clark Public Utilities.

The outage was reported just before 9 a.m. By 10:30 a.m., only five customers remained without power.

A switching error by the Bonneville Power Administration at the Ross Complex caused the power outage, according to utility spokesman Dameon Pesanti.

People should turn off major electrical appliances, such as heating or cooking units, during a power outage, according to Clark Public Utilities, to prevent unsafe situations once power is restored.

“I would call that a big outage outside of the storm season,” Pesanti said.
