Letter: Boxing gyms are educational

By Julian Hart, Vancouver
Published: March 29, 2024, 6:00am

As someone who has ventured into that square ring, boxing provided me with discipline and helped me learn so much about myself. People see boxing as a dangerous sport, and while there is the risk you can potentially get injured in boxing, the benefits outweigh whatever controversy is thrown at it. Boxing can transform the youth of Vancouver, and mold them to become better people. The youth of today need purpose. Their priorities need to be strengthened. Every boxing match is a test of how strong your will is, and that you can prevail even if the odds are against you.

Vancouver needs more boxing gyms. Vancouver needs more purpose. Forge Combat Academy, in west Camas, is a gym full of hardworking peers and coaches who push you to strive to be better every day. I’ve had the luxury of training there for two years and getting better at my craft. My only request out of this letter is to promote the awareness of how boxing can help a lost individual find purpose as it did for me.
