Letter: Traffic cameras would be helpful

I think the city and county should get with the 21st century and install traffic speed lights.

Our police are understaffed as it is. If the cameras will prevent one death from either distracted or entitled drivers, the cost will be worth it. One time I was crossing Mill Plain at Southeast 98th Avenue and a man driving a pickup truck was speeding west on Mill Plain. He noticed me when I was almost at the westbound left-turn lane. He looked up and saw his light was red and stopped in the middle of the intersection and then took off again.

I’d like to go one step further and have all light-controlled intersections have a designated left-turn lane light. This way pedestrians can cross the street without having to worry about a car that’s turning left hitting them. I do like that the city has installed some time-delayed lights so walkers can get to the middle of the intersection before turning green for the cars.
