Letter: Biden’s clearheadedness is needed

I returned home last night from two weeks of travel to Germany and Prague. It was heartening to see the blue and yellow Ukrainian flag hanging from windows and buildings all over Berlin, Dresden and Prague to show support for that beleaguered nation’s struggle to survive. Germans, Czechs, and citizens of other East European states understand what it means to be under Russia’s thumb, and they will fight to retain their independence and democratic institutions just like Ukrainians are doing today.

The prospective Republican candidate for our nation’s highest office said in February, “Russia can do whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member that didn’t meet defense spending guidelines. That statement stunned the people that I talked to during my visit.

Americans — wake up! It doesn’t matter if you’re Christian, Jewish, Muslim or of another belief. Nor does it matter if you’re Black, white, Asian or of mixed race. In the dangerous world we live in, with great powers threatening our existence and well-being, we require the experience, expertise and clearheadedness of President Joe Biden to survive and flourish.
