Weather Eye: Chance of rain ahead after our pleasant weekend

I think the cooler weather on Friday was enjoyable although I know many of you like those 80-degree high temperatures and some even tolerate that 90-degree stuff. Whew, too hot for me. When it is above 80 degrees, I keep in the shade like my old puppy dog. Good news for me I guess, no 80- or 90-degree weather on the horizon.

Today was expected to be an excellent day for the big parade in Hazel Dell and if you went, I sure hope you enjoyed the parade and the weather. We have another day of fair weather on Sunday after some passing clouds tonight. The weather pattern becomes a bit unsettled for the upcoming week.

High pressure is suppressed out in the Pacific as a cool trough of low pressure settles in from the gulf of Alaska. This will keep us below average in the high temperatures for a few days and we go from “a chance of rain Tuesday to rain likely Tuesday night and chance of showers Wednesday and Wednesday night and finally a slight chance of showers on Thursday.” Those words were taken from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Portland on Friday afternoon.

Now some forecast models show a decent rain Tuesday night and Wednesday, maybe a quarter to one-half inch of rain in our surrounding area. I’m thinking that is way overdone and if we do get any rain it will be at most a tenth of an inch. I may be wrong and of course that is still days away so it could turn out wetter. I will update the rain chance in Tuesday’s column.

I mentioned cooler weather so highs in the 65- to 70-degree range are likely. If we get more clearing than clouds next week at times, we could get into the low 70s. Regardless, we will not have a strong ridge of high pressure over us so that opens the door for weather systems to drag their moisture and clouds further south. We’ll see. Either way, we need a little rain and I’m sure the warmer weather will return soon.

Have a great weekend everyone.
