Delicious diversity

Ridgefield’s annual Multicultural Festival is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in downtown. This free event’s theme is “Food and Fashion” with food trucks, artisan and farmers market vendors, a scavenger hunt, kids’ activities and information booths. Among the many music, dance and entertainment offerings will be Ghanaian master drummer Nii Ardey Allotey leading a dance and drum session. There will be a fashion show featuring cultural fashions from the community, as well as the designs of multimedia artist Ruby N. Lewis. For a complete list of events and locations, visit ridgefieldculture.org.

Latino leadership

The Clark County Historical Museum Speaker Series teams up with community organization Fourth Plain Forward at 7 p.m. today to present “A Celebration of Latino Leadership,” a talk by Diana Avalos-Leos. Avalos-Leos is the founder of Latino Leadership NW and a community activist with a background in health equity and social justice issues. The talk is also being advertised as “Orugas a Mariposas” — “Caterpillars to Butterflies.” This talk will be at Fourth Plain Forward, 3101 E. Fourth Plain, Suite 101, in Vancouver. More information at www.cchmuseum.org.

Brick history

Curious about Vancouver’s historic Providence Academy? You can take a free evening tour. Property owner The Historic Trust offers monthly tours of the building, 400 E. Evergreen Blvd., at 5 p.m. Friday — and Oct. 4, Nov. 8 and Dec. 13. Tours begin in the docent office, the first door on the right as you enter. The building is wheelchair-accessible, but the tour involves climbing stairs. A small elevator is available. Registration is required at www.thehistorictrust.org/tours.

Dance like a Scot

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Southwest Washington State branch, invites the public to Frolic Scottish Dance Parties set for 7:30 to 9 p.m. Fridays in September at Columbia Dance Center, 1700 Broadway, Vancouver. No experience or partner is necessary. Singles, couples and families are welcome. All dances will be taught and called. There’s a $5 donation at the door. Learn more at www.rscds-swws.org.

Tomato, toe-mah-toe

Local tomatoes are on the menu as the Clark County Food System Council holds an Eat, Drink & Be Local gathering from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heathen Brewing Feral Public House, 1109 Washington St., Vancouver. Taste a wide variety of local tomatoes and get insights from local farmers. Food and drink will be available for purchase from Heathen Brewing. There’s a $5 suggested donation. Learn more at clarkfoodcouncil.org.
