Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela, known for his unorthodox and memorable pitching motion that included looking skyward at the apex of each windup, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, at the age of 63. He took Los Angeles by storm in 1981 by winning his first eight starts for the Dodgers and throwing shutouts in five of them. He would go on to win the 1981 Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards plus a World Series title over the New York Yankees.
