Brandon Vick, chairman of the 18th District Republican party, said Wednesday he’s strongly considering running for the 18th District seat currently held by Rep. Jaime Herrera, R-Camas. Herrera announced Tuesday that she will be a candidate for 3rd Congressional District representative next year. U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, D-Vancouver, is stepping down from Congress at the end of 2010.

Vick, 25, a lifelong Clark County resident, got involved in politics at 18 when he became the Clark County GOP liaison to Clark College. He has worked on two Republican campaigns in the 49th District and has served as the county party’s treasurer.

He works in his family’s landscaping business and said his business background makes him well-suited to serve the 18th, a traditionally Republican district.

“I can bring a point of view that understands the needs of business and what it would take to increase hiring and promote more production and more jobs,” he said.
