Paige Martin is an all-league standout for the Thunder

Paige Martin, who hit six home runs last season for Mountain View and was named to the all-league team, signed a letter of intent to play softball at Sacramento State.

“She is the most intense player who has ever played for me,” said Mountain View coach Bob Van Horn, adding that he expects Martin to be the leader of the squad this spring.

Martin will be joining 2008 Hudson’s Bay graduate Shelby Voelz, who is a pitcher for Sacramento State.

“They were the first school to recruit me, and I really wanted to play Division I,” Martin said. “They were close to home. I really liked the campus and the coaches.”

Martin, who has been on varsity since she was a freshman, has helped Mountain View to the state tournament twice. The Thunder lost in the 4A championship game in 2007.

Camas plays on Saturday — The Camas girls soccer team will play Lakeside of Seattle in a Class 3A girls soccer state quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium.

The Papermakers will try to earn their first trip to the state semifinals since winning the 3A state championship in 2005. The match also will be Camas’ final match in Doc Harris Stadium before it is renovated.
