Prep highlights: Camas No. 1 double team’s victory highlights 4A GSHL girls tennis win over Union

Defending state champion doubles pair Taryn Kerker and Fiona Zou triumphed in a marathon match as Camas girls tennis beat Union 5-1 in a battle of unddefeated 4A Greater St. Helens League teams Wednesday.

Kerker and Zou dropped the first set 6-4 against the sister tandem of Kayla and Lana Saopraseuth.

The Camas pair rebounded to win the second set 6-1, then won a super tiebreaker 11-9.

Camas dominated the singles matches. Defending 4A state singles champion Hailey Kerker won 6-0, 6-0. Avery Fisher won her match 6-0, 6-1 and Yvonne Yin triumphed 6-1, 6-1.

Union’s No. 2 doubles team of MaryLeigh Hill and Katherine Stratton won their match 7-5, 6-3.

The Camas No. 3 doubles team of Avery Gardner and Sophia Rundle closed out the win with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Stars of the day

  • Payton Blunt, Prairie softball, went 4 for 5 with a grand slam, two runs scored and five RBI in a 17-6 win over Camas.
  • Emily Foytack, Mark Morris softball, went 4 for 7 with eight RBI and two doubles as the Monarchs swept a doubleheader over Hudson’s Bay, 11-0 and 17-0.
  • Nate Olmos, Ridgefield baseball, went 3 for 4 with two RBI including a walk-off single in a 5-4 win over Hockinson. That one-out hit drove in Landon DeBeaumont, who also went 3 for 4.
  • Ryker Ruelas, Seton Catholic baseball, hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh to break a 1-1 tie as the Cougars went on to beat Mountain View 6-3.
  • Connor Wesemann, Kelso baseball, was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI in the Hilanders’ 11-0 win over Evergreen.
  • Riley Young and Logan Dorland, R.A. Long baseball. Young hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game against Woodland 9-9, and Dorland walked it off for the Lumberjacks with a run-scoring hit in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Deker Bartell, Zach Doherty, Jackson Rohl, Mark Morris baseball, were a combined 10 for 13 with seven RBI hitting 1-2-3 in the batting order as the Monarchs beat Fort Vancouver 14-2.
  • Jacob Bellamy, Washougal baseball, went 3 for 5 with a run scored in the Panthers’ 6-4 win over Hudson’s Bay.
  • Cooper Schneider, Camas boys soccer, scored two goals in a 3-1 non-league win over Heritage.
  • Bartek Davis-Postrozny, Skyview boys soccer, scored a hat trick as the Storm shut out Mountain View 3-0.
  • Casie Kleine, Castle Rock girls track and field, ran the Class 1A state’s third-fastest 400 meters in 59.40 seconds in a Trico meet at Stevenson.
  • Shaela Bradley, La Center girls track and field, jumped a season-best and Class 1A state-leading mark of 17 feet, 8 1/4 inches in a Trico meet at Stevenson. She also ran a season-best 13.05 in winning the 100 meters.
