Prep highlights: Ridgefield beats Woodland 7-2 to share 2A GSHL baseball title with Columbia River

Spudders will take No. 1 seed to district, while Rapids are No. 2

Colton Warren, Liam Ostrom, Nate Olmos and Jared Gottsch had two hits each as Ridgefield beat Woodland 7-2 to clinch a share of the 2A Greater St. Helens League baseball championship.

The Spudders finished tied with Columbia River at 14-2 for first place. On a tiebreaker, Ridgefield received the No. 1 seed to the district playoffs and will face the winner of Saturday’s Rochester-Washougal game on Tuesday at Ridgefield.

Gottsch went 2 for 2 with two doubles, Ostrom was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI, Olmos was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Warren was 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI.

Noah Coakes pitched six shutout innings, allowing just one hit as Columbia River beat Mark Morris 10-0 to clinch its share of the 2A GSHL title.

Zayne Boyes went 4 for 4 with two runs and a double, and Peter Lubisch was 2 for 4 with a run, two doubles and four RBI for the Rapids, who will head to the district playoffs as the GSHL’s No. 2 seed. River will host Shelton on Tuesday.

Hunter Brewer pitched four shutout innings and added a two-run double as R.A. Long beat Hudson’s Bay 10-0 to clinch the No. 3 seed to the district playoffs. The Lumberjacks will play at W.F. West on Tuesday.

Stars of the day

  • McKinley Ermshar, Union softball, struck out eight batters over seven innings and added a two-run double in a 7-1 win over Camas.
  • Emily Palomino, Mountain View softball, hit two doubles, two home runs, had four RBI and scored five runs and was also the winning pitcher in a five-inning 21-11 victory over Fort Vancouver to help end the Thunder’s eight-game losing streak.
  • Kenzie Kuhnhausen, Seton Catholic softball, drove in seven runs with a three-run double, a two-run single and a two-run home run as the  Cougars beat Stevenson 20-10.
  • Zola Stephens, Seton Catholic softball, went 5 for 5 with a triple and RBI and scored three runs in the win over Stevenson. She now has six consecutive hits over two games.
  • Fiona Grabb, Columbia-White Salmon softball, was 4 for 4 with a double, a run-scoring single and scored four runs as the Bruins’ leadoff hitter to help beat King’s Way Christian 16-6.
  • Revac Banfield, Columbia River track and field, won the 200 meters (22.10 seconds) and 400 (51.28) at the Spudder Classic.
  • Jacob McManus, Columbia River track and field, won the 1,600 (4:23.06) and 3,200 (9:25.08) at the Spudder Classic.
  • Casie Kleine, Castle Rock track and field, won the 200 (26.42) and 400 (59.08) at the Spudder Classic.
  • Makiah Iven, Heritage softball, went 3 for 4 with a double and RBI as the Timberwolves beat Evergreen 7-5.
