Majesticperfection earns victory

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — Majesticperfection took the lead at the break and led throughout to win the $250,000 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap by 234 lengths Sunday at Saratoga Race Course.

The Vanderbilt was the fifth consecutive win for the Steve Asmussen-trained Majestic Perfection, his first in a Grade 1 race. Majesticperfection, ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, ran the six furlongs in 1:08.63 and earned $150,000 for the Padua Stables, his owner.

Majesticperfection paid $4, $2.80 and $2.50. Big Drama paid $3.70 and $2.90 and Bribon, third of eight, returned $2.60 to show.

Earlier, 5-year-old Secret Gypsy, ridden by Jamie Theriot, wore down frontrunning One Smokin’ Lady and opened a two-length advantage to win the $150,000 Honorable Miss Handicap for fillies and mares.

The Ronnie Warner-trained mare ran six furlongs in 1:09.82 and earned $90,000 for her owners, Richland Hills Stable and John Kuehl. She paid $6.10, $3.70 and $2.70. Runner-up Hour Glass paid $4.80 and $2.80 and Warbling, third of five, paid $2.20 to show.
