Glover has 39 points as Iona beats Canisius 94-85

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Glover had a career high of 39 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Iona to a 94-85 win over Canisius on Friday night in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener.

Glover, who played last season at the College of Eastern Utah, was 15 of 23 from the field and 9 of 11 from the free-throw line for the Gaels (4-3), who won their fourth straight game.

Scott Machado also had a double-double for Iona with 18 points and 11 assists, while Jermel Jenkins scored 16 points and Kyle Smyth added 12. Alejo Rodriguez had 12 rebounds.

The Gaels overcame a seven-point deficit, taking their first lead at 27-26, on Glover’s layup with 7:18 left in the first half.

After the Golden Griffins (3-3) tied the score at 32, Iona closed out the half on a 13-2 run. Canisius could get no closer than five in the second half.

Elton Frazier led the Golden Griffins with 26 points.
