As revivals go, Thursday’s Evergreen girls basketball win at Skyview on Thursday was special.

The Plainsmen trailed by 10 entering the final quarter, then rode a late 16-0 run to a 51-45 win. The result prevented the Storm from clinching the Class 4A Greater St. Helens League title, and was the most significant win in a while for an Evergreen program that struggled in recent seasons.

Three players reached double figures, led by 17 points from Justine Joudrey. Joudrey scored 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, when Evergreen outscored Skyview 23-7.

Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said some timely baskets from players other than Joudrey helped overcome Skyview’s gimmick defense that focused on her and teammate Shamerica Scott.

“The fact that we had some scoring balance helped us out,” Foreman said.

Sheleena Giles scored 13 for the Plainsmen (14-4, 5-3 GSHL), and Audrey Frazier added 10. Scott was limited to four points, but pulled down 16 rebounds, many of those in the fourth quarter when Skyview (14-4, 7-1) struggled with its shooting.

“We had the good shots, we just didn’t make any,” said Storm coach Steve Hook, whose team was 16 for 53 from the floor.

Larissa Hamilton scored 13 for Skyview, and Katie Swanson had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Storm still have a two-game cushion in the standings with two games remaining.

Battle Ground 40, Mountain View 35 — Aubri Squires scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter, helping the Tigers to the victory.

Battle Ground, which got 19 points and five 3-point shots from Kiley Thomas, pulled away from a 30-30 tie through three quarters. Mountain View, which was led by 10 points from Emma Duchesne, made 11 field goals and 10 of 25 free throws.

“We just didn’t put them in,” Mountain View coach Kevin Estes said. “We didn’t shoot well tonight.”

Squires added six rebounds, five assists, and two steals to her stat sheet. Haley Grossman had 10 rebounds for the Tigers. Tori Dixson had eight points and 11 boards.

Union 52, Hudson’s Bay 34 — The Titans held the Eagles to two points in the first quarter and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Janae Davis led a balanced attack with 12 points. Mandy White and Bre Ongley each had 10 points for Union.

Lexi Gleason led Bay with 15 points.

Prairie 62, Fort Vancouver 20 — Meghan Lindsley finished with 13 points and Taylor Peacock had six rebounds as the Falcons won at Fort Vancouver.

Ridgefield 75, Washougal 44 — The Spudders got balanced scoring and jumped out to a 24-point lead by the half.

Nichole Kates led Ridgefield with 20 points. Shelby Williams had 15 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocked shots.

Hannah Grenz added 13 points and four assists, and Penny Hughes scored 10 points.

Hockinson 47, Mark Morris 36 — Three players reached double figures and the visiting Hawks pulled away after halftime for the win. Ashley Haden scored 18 points, amanda McCarty 12, and Jenna Haagen 10 for Hockinson, which outscored Mark Morris 22-11 in the second half.

Woodland 52, R.A. Long 33 — Charity Arn scored 18 points to go with six rebounds and three assists as Woodland remained unbeaten in 2A GSHL play. Taylor McCullough added 10 points for the Beavers (11-5, 6-0).

King’s Way-Seton Catholic 26, Vancouver Christian 24 — Edrienne Chan made a steal and layup with 16 seconds to play to give King’s Way-Seton Catholic the win. Other than 2-0 in the first quarter, Chan’s basket gave King’s Way-Seton (6-12, 5-5 Columbia Valley League) its only other lead of the game.

Kim Morris led Vancouver Christian in scoring with 15 points.

Columbia Adventist 35, WSD 14 — Olivia Roberts led Columbia Adventist in scoring with 11 points in its victory.

Columbia River 56, Camas 52 — The Columbia River Chieftains did not surprise Camas coach Scott Preuninger.

“You just know, with their tradition, you know they’re going to play hard every night,” Preuninger said after the Chieftains picked up their first victory in Class 3A Greater St. Helens League play this season.

Preuninger said he was hoping the Chieftains would have won earlier against someone else because, he figured, they would not go winless for the entire league schedule.

“They execute well and play with a lot of discipline,” Preuninger said.

Kramer Ramberg led River with 22 points. Isaiah Smith added 15. Brandon Scheidel made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points. Camas, which trailed by 10 going into the final quarter, was led by Marc Eppinger’s 15 points.

Kelso 75, Heritage 72 — Garrett Austin hit eight 3-pointers, and the visiting Highlanders (10-8, 5-3) were 13 for 13 at the foul line in the fourth quarter to hold off the Timberwolves (3-15, 1-7) in 4A GSHL play.

Austin finished with 29 points for Kelso, while Jeff Parrish poured in 31 for heritage. Parrish scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, but the Timberwolves did not get within one possession of the lead because of the Hilanders’ free-throw accuracy.

Trout Lake 68, Seton Catholic 31 — Conor McDaid-O’Neill had 17 points to lead Seton Catholic scorers in the loss at Trout Lake.

Columbia Adventist 73, WSD 15 — Landon Roberts scored 17 points and Bronson Dull 10 in Columbia Adventist’s victory.
