A Portland man police say took pictures of children at the Oregon Zoo was arrested Thursday on charges of sexual abuse in the first-degree.

George Hamel, a registered sex offender, was arrested on allegations he had sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl.

Investigators from the Fairview Police Department learned during their investigation that Hamel, an amateur photographer, frequents the Portland Zoo and uses his trade to gain access to children.

Hamel made a habit of photographing children and then asking their families for an address so he could send them the photos, according to a press release.

Hamel is missing his part of his right leg and uses a wheel chair.

Authorities are asking families with information about possible crimes involving Hamel to contact Det. Brad Robertson at 503-674-62599.
