SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A national advocacy group ranks Oregon among the top 10 states for driver safety laws.
The Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety says Oregon has 11 of the 15 laws it considers essential for promoting roadway safety, including its recent ban on text-messaging while driving.
No state fully complies with the group’s standards.
The group, for example, would like to see Oregon require ignition-interlock devices for all drunken-driver offenders. Only eight states have such a law.
