A Vancouver Public Schools bus carrying no students crashed into the rear of a stopped pickup Friday on state Highway 500 at Northeast St. Johns Road.

The occupants of the pickup weren’t seriously injured.

Shortly after noon Friday, Debra S. Dickerson, 47, of Camas was driving the school bus west on the highway behind a 2004 Toyota pickup driven by Ivan S. Tkachuk, 61, of Battle Ground.

Tkachuk stopped for traffic and the school bus crashed into the pickup’s rear, according to a bulletin from the Washington State Patrol.

Dickerson was not reported injured.

Tkachuk suffered a back injury but declined to be taken to a hospital. His passenger, Rozaliya Tkachuk, 60, of Battle Ground suffered a head injury and was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. She was released later Friday, a hospital employee said.

The crash was caused by inattention and Dickerson was ticketed for allegedly driving too fast, the bulletin said.
