A 59-year-old man was taken to a hospital late Monday afternoon after being hit by a car while walking across Southeast Chkalov Drive at Mill Plain Boulevard in Cascade Park.

David West is believed to have suffered a minor injury, said Officer Missy Ross with the Vancouver Police Department.

About 5:45 p.m. Monday, driver Dale Tolliver, 58, was headed south when he made a right turn onto Mill Plain and the car struck West at a very low speed, Ross said. Tolliver told police he didn’t see West.

Tolliver was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Ross said.

Monday night, West was a patient at Southeast Washington Medical Center and his condition hadn’t yet been evaluated, a nursing supervisor said.
