SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle police say a man who had been firing a gun inside his apartment and shooting out the window was arrested after negotiators talked him into surrendering.

Spokeswoman Renee Witt says officers first responded to the apartment Thursday night after his mother called to say he was suicidal and had mental problems.

The man was gone but officers returned to scene about 3:45 a.m. Friday on a report of shots fired.

Police closed off the area in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and evacuated other residents of the building. The man gave himself up about 9 a.m. He was jailed for investigation of a weapons charge.

No one was hurt. Witt says another man in the apartment was a friend and not a hostage.
