Fishing report 7/15

Summer chinook fishing is waning, but steelhead catches are good, as are counts at Bonneville Dam.

Walleye are beginning to be taken in the Camas-Washougal area. Estuary sturgeon fishing is not great, but has been better of late. The season has been extended and is now open daily through Aug. 1.

Kokanee fishing is mediocre at Yale Reservoir.

Angler checks from the Washington (WDFW) and Oregon (ODFW) departments of Fish and Wildlife:

Lower Columbia — Estuary, 837 boaters with 245 legal sturgeon kept plus 22 legal, 61 oversize, and 739 sublegal sturgeon released plus five charter anglers with five sublegal sturgeon released. (ODFW)

Chinook to Knappton, 35 bank rods with no sturgeon. (WDFW)

Knappton, Deep River ramps, 183 boaters with 84 legal sturgeon kept plus three legal, 11 oversize and 112 sublegals released. (WDFW)

Astoria Bridge to Cathlamet, 25 bank rods with two steelhead kept. (WDFW)

Tongue Point to Puget Island, 42 boaters with nine steelhead kept plus 10 steelhead released. (ODFW)

Clatsop Spit to Jones Beach, 31 Oregon bank rods with nine steelhead kept plus one summer chinook jack and 10 steelhead released. (ODFW)

Cathlamet, 44 bank rods with five steelhead and one sockeye kept plus one steelhead released; three boaters with no catch; four bank rods with no sturgeon. (WDFW)

Longview, 358 bank rods with 54 steelhead, six sockeye and two summer chinook kept plus 14 steelhead and one chinook released; 115 boaters with 26 steelhead and one sockeye kept plus 11 steelhead released; eight bank rods and four boaters with no sturgeon. (WDFW)

Kalama, 95 boaters with 12 steelhead kept plus 14 steelhead and two summer chinook released; 226 bank rods with four summer chinook, 23 steelhead and one sockeye kept plus seven summer chinook and 24 steelhead released; 47 boaters with four legal sturgeon kept plus one oversize and 69 sublegals released. Longview to Portland, 82 boaters with one summer chinook and seven steelhead kept plus three summer chinook and two steelhead released; 47 Oregon bank rods with five steelhead kept plus one summer chinook and one steelhead released; 16 boaters with one oversize and 40 sublegal sturgeon released. Woodland, 136 bank rods with 10 steelhead kept and three released; 17 boaters with one adult summer chinook and one jack kept; five bank rods with 10 sublegal sturgeon released. (WDFW)

Camas-Washougal, 18 bank rods with one steelhead released; 36 boaters with three steelhead kept plus two summer chinook and five steelhead released; 30 boaters with one legal sturgeon kept plus one oversize and 81 sublegals released; three boaters with four shad kept and 25 released; eight boaters with three walleye kept; one bank rod with no walleye. North Bonneville, 42 boaters with two summer chinook and eight steelhead kept plus one chinook and 15 steelhead kept; 243 bank rods with 12 summer chinook, two jack chinook, 24 steelhead, and one sockeye kept plus 11 summer chinook, 51 steelhead and three sockeye released; three bank rods with one shad kept. Yale Reservoir — Two anglers with 13 kokanee kept and one bull trout released. The fish were taken with three ounces of weight and 75 feet of line.
